>general motors, detroit, america< is the first offering to emerge from the mysterious parisian dance duo, acid washed. the influence of chicago and detroit techno lingers on the backseat in this six-minute joy-ride of sprawling atmospheric electronica. on the flipside, snake amply showcases a different, more collaborative side to acid washed. berlin based newcomer, barbara panther, catches the eye with a sultry vocal performance with a sting in the tail. equally adept at providing softness, her dynamism shimmers alongside the deft production. as per usual, record makers have assembled a stellar remix package. put in the hands of blackstrobe, the measured quality of general motors, detroit, america finds itself infused with a tension that thrills and flickers with a brooding energy that belongs on the dancefloor. gavin russom (dfa) calms the restless pulse at the heart of snake, evoking the aztec spirit of dj rolando before overdrawn arpeggiated solos are used to disrupt with pleasing effect.

smaul recordings should not be suggestive of being fed by productions of acid pauli, only. however, creative times need being used and martin gretschmann - aka console - member of the notwist - alias acid pauli has collected lots of material whilst the scarce time left last year. on smaul 07 he follows his self-weaved red thread of the year. acid pauli confides more & more in a certain house rhythm paired with these melancholic layered sound-synthesis, already well known by him. astonishing things emerge out of acid paulis musical waves, sometimes even scientially croon quite a bit. nymbiotic (a) comes relaxed but holds a great melody up in the sleeve - seasonly peppered. symbiotic (b) rests bit on minimal house, but acid pauli never relied on that genre. thus, this track does not remain as it seems after three minutes. glitches and sounds break it up to evolve a new symbiosis. symbiotic becomes more timeless in spite of siren-climax peaks and an obsessive string chorus fading in the end.

nys underground celebrity, electronic obscurity and rare disco specialist william burnett (aka grackle, aka speculator) delivers an ep that truly defies any categorization and therefore will have a harder time to find its way into the stores usually packed with easily digestible pre-masticated dancefloor stew that comes with filing recommandations. the music on this record evokes images of mad peyote sessions held amidst dry and sandy landscapes. the original desert acid sounds like a jam machines and instruments would do when left on their own, unsupervised by humans. a wobbly and acidey synthline goes on a psychedelic journey with fuzzy guitar riffs, backed by a stompy almost tribal discobeat. düsseldorfs currently most interesting band musiccargo rework the piece into a cinematic krautdisco gem that floats on a loopy vibraphone drone, sprinkled with german and english lyrics. sombrero galaxy (aka cbs/intergalactic fm regular dj tako reyenga and his mysterious uk buddy jonny nash) take the track into cosmic realms (rare occasion where the term really fits) and their version could easily be interpreted as a vangelis tribute. the last track on the ep we are it is a slow 808 jam with druggy and spaced out fuzzy vocals, paired with equally druggy and fuzzy guitars. if you are a filmmaker and you need a song for a weird desert scene youd be an idiot not to consider this one the perfect choice.

los angeles is a hot bed of underground techno and killer all night parties. at the center of all of this is the duo of acid circus (droid behavior), who control much of the movements sonically and at the events.the brothers >v< inspire this tora release with heavy influence from venetian snares (ie. see title).the main cut throbs with a hypnotic vocal chant and incredible bass. both a dj tool and dance magnet. >dark wave< continues this approach this time with chilling reverb attacks and more bass. label head dietrich schoenemann strips it back to almost a constant loop and still manages to sneak more bass in.
